Crunchy Joe- Aftereffects Experimentation

Really the only thing I've ever used Aftereffects for is just importing and exporting PNG sequences as video files (see my 3D animations). But I know I've seen some really awesome things that people have made with it so I wanted to start learning more about it. So here, I've just been messing around with some really basic stuff- just some opacity, nothing exciting. I also learned a little bit about particle systems, that alpha matte at the end is bound to a null object animation. It was probably my favorite little trick I used in this clip.

I'll probably mess around with it some more, I wanna try some other things with it. It looks pretty boring right now!

Youtube link, in case Blogger is lying about uploading my video there:

Drawing Editing- Before and After

The process by which I edit my traditional drawings digitally to compensate for quality lost through the camera (I don't have a scanner, so I photograph all of my traditional art).

Typically I try to work with the cleanest (sharpest) photograph I can, but the lens inevitably warps the colors and the perspective. So I have to correct that in Photoshop.

Before:

After:

Nothing fancy. But I always like looking at before and after pictures.

Some stuff for a T-shirt contest

So I actually meant to submit the top one instead of the jellyfish-lookin Ghast to J!NX's Minecraft T-shirt contest... unfortunately I submitted the wrong file (I blame lack of sleep). Oh well, I still like the other one, this one just looks a little more Ghastly. And the bottom one is my favorite of the two designs I entered. Didn't make it through though (I suspect either too scary or too many colors).

Some things I've drawn in the last semester

Woo! This semester has been entirely crazy! Here's a couple things I've done:

A painting for a friend (Photoshop)

It's from their engagement photos. He has ridiculously huge earlobes, and not just in the painting.

Here's my final animation rig for Intro to 3D Animation (Autodesk Maya):

And a quick little animation done using only Blend Shapes (also Autodesk Maya):

The rest of the semester was programming, essays, and programming! Those aren't as exciting so I won't bother to post them, heheh.

Just a quick watercolor/ink study. Gave it to a friend.

3D Final

This is my final project for Intermediate 3D Graphics. Still has a buncha work I wanna do on it. I think the sampling's turned wayyy too far up for the hair (though it works pretty nicely for the fur), and though I left the seams in on the bear on purpose, there is one that I didn't notice until I rendered it high res and it looks a little out of place.

Rendering it at this size took 3 hours and 10 minutes, by the way. Just for the computer to finish thinking.

But hey! It's Winter break now and I need to use that to get away from this project. Because of this project specifically I've gotten 4 hours of sleep so far this week, counting Sunday night. I'll rest well and then come back to it in a few weeks with fresh eyes. c:

Made in Autodesk Maya and Mudbox.

Character designs- Storyboarding project

The designs for my characters in my Storyboarding final. Firecorn there slimmed out by accident in the front view. And also is missing a leg in the 3/4 view.

And just for the heck of it, an apple I made with the Gradient Mesh tool in Illustrator:
